SUN TV POSTS REVENUE GROWTH

Sun TV has posted a revenue growth in the last quarter ending Dec 31 and its consolidated net profit for the quarter has increased by 7.15% to ₹ 384.69 crore from ₹ 359.01 crore for the previous quarter of 2018.

Income from operations fell 9.74% to ₹ 847.8 crore compared to ₹ 939.31 crore. Total expenses were down 8.48% to ₹ 404.35 crore as against ₹ 441.86 crore.

On a standalone basis, the net profit for the quarter has jumped 6% to ₹ 373.45 crore as against ₹ 351.33 crore. The Profit Before Taxes for the quarter was at ₹ 498.46 crore as against ₹ 542 crore.

The revenues (excluding income from movie distribution) was at ₹ 799.29 crore as against ₹ 795.95 crore. The subscription revenue for the quarter was up by 18% at ₹ 411.85 crore as against ₹ 349.60 crore.

YASIR MIRZA : HEAD BBC DIVERSITY SEGMENT

Yasir Mirza will take charge as Head of Diversity and Inclusion for BBC Studios and he will devise and implement a new strategy to improve representation across the business on and off-screen.

Mirza was previously with Channel 4, where he drove a diversity strategy for the broadcaster encompassing and also led diversity and inclusion for the global philanthropic organisation Open Society Foundations.

Mirza said, “I’m hugely excited to be joining BBC Studios. It’s an opportunity to work with teams of the highest calibre who make content for global audiences, and I’m looking forward to helping the business improve its representation of the world we live in today.”

APPEAL WITHDRAWN BY FASTWAY

Fastway Transmissions, a leading MSO has withdrawn its appeal against the new tariff order.

Fastway advocate informed that matter has now become infructuous on account of notification of a new tariff order issued by TRAI, so they seek withdrawal of the appeal. The tribunal listed the matter on 2nd March for directions. At a later stage, TRAI counsel Arjun Natarajan was apprised of the order passed in the matter.

TRAI has now amended the tariff order, interconnection regulation, and quality of services (QoS) regulations. The amended regulatory framework is known as NTO 2.0.

B4U Films has a new Group MD in Sunil Shah. Sunil has been associated with B4U for over 10 years. B4U CEO Ishan Saksena said, “I wish him and everyone he interacts with, immense success in the B4U journey.”

B4U has seen good growth and has seen the launch of new channels in the past year and has a dynamic business strategy to grow the company and a few changes in organizational structuring are also expected.

SHEMAROO SUBS CLOSED

Shemaroo Entertainment has closed two group companies - Shemaroo Entertainment (UK) and Shemaroo Entertainment INC, USA. Out of the company’s two subsidiaries in the US one will continue to function and the other will be closed down.

Shemaroo’s profit has taken a dip and was ₹ 8.5 crore Dec 2019 quarter and the previous 2018 Dec quarter was ₹ 19.57 crore. Revenue was ₹ 97.04 crore in Dec 2019 compared to ₹ 148.95 crore in the previous year quarter Dec 2018.

KAMYAB TV ASSETS ATTACHED

Kamyab Television’s assets have been attached by TDSAT. The case is between with Govt of India & Kamyab TV in which the Govt had sought an appeal against Kamyab Television for the recovery of dues. The TDSAT passed an order which attached the assets and instructed no money withdrawal except for payment to the Government. In an order of 3rd September 2019, the broadcaster was asked to pay ₹ 3.98 crore and was given two months’ time to pay.

STAR BOOKS ₹ 900 CR FROM IPL

Star TV has booked close to ₹ 800-900 crore worth of advertising space from IPL and the company has set a target of ₹ 3,000 crore in advertising sales from IPL this year, which would be an over 40% increase from last year

Star has been eyeing a major chunk of its revenue from IPL. Star India bagged the rights for ₹ 16,347.5 crore in 2018. It has expanded coverage of the league into regional languages. Revenue increased by 35% to ₹ 1,750 crore in the first year (IPL 2018) and to ₹ 2,100 crore in IPL 2019. Viewership grew from over 500 million in 2017 to 805 million (TV and digital) in 2018 and 900 million last year.

MCA TO EXAMINE ZEE BOOKS

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is set to scrutinise the books of Zee Entertainment Enterprises following the resignations of a few of its independent directors, who raised corporate governance issues.

The enquiry will be carried as per Section 206 of the act. The books will be called to verify them and then the board members will be questioned. ZEE maintains it has always adhered to the highest levels of corporate governance, maintaining utmost transparency across all aspects.

The MCA’s Western Regional Director will carry out the probe into the company’s books and will record the statements of the company management.

On November 27, Zee announced the resignation of independent directors Sunil Sharma and Neharika Vohra, and non-independent director Subodh Kumar.
